About
The Louisville Data Journal is an independent publication launched in February 2026 by Nate Kratzer. I think local data journalism has something to offer to the community and so I've started this site to write about local politics, economics, and sports from a data perspective.

Is this site credible?
I try to be transparent enough in all my analysis that you can judge for yourself. All my code is posted on Github.
That said having everyone constantly verify everyone else's work is rather time consuming and inefficient, so perhaps you just wanted to know something about me and if I'm qualified to do this kind of analysis.
I have a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Kentucky and have spent the past 10 years as a data scientist working across a few different industries. That doesn't mean I won't ever make mistakes (and if you see any please let me know so I can fix them!), but hopefully it provides some confidence that the analysis and commentary here come from decades of both analyzing data and studying how politics and economics work.
